Description

The Coiled Needle follows the immersion of Roland Pearce into the world of the seen and unseen. Pearce, an acupuncturist by trade, works with regular physical ailments, as well as, the world of the unseen such as demons, ghosts, and creatures from legend and myth. This novel is set in Portland, Oregon in 2017, but also in other areas of the Pacific Northwest. Pearce's experience questions the reality of the dominant paradigm, as he tracks patterns and learns how the current world situations influence the world of spirit and vice versa. Through his various experiences, Pearce begins to learn how these situations set the stage for the impending war between the light and the dark.

This novel has 13 stories within it. This series of novels is dedicated to stories which I have collected over the years on experiences of the esoteric, obscure, and mystical. It includes stories on Demons, yes, but also other entities and situations that, as the main stream would say are bizarre. The stories in this first book cover what I consider to be the First Law of the Universe regarding the world of the spirit. There is a great deal of Chinese medicine philosophy within this book, some of which I have drawn from classical texts, and some of which I have discussed with older Chinese medicine practitioners over the years. Yet, first and foremost, this is a novel. You will learn things upon reading it, but it is primarily written to be fun. I have worked to create a fictional story which portrays the strange and the odd, but where a practitioner or patient will still find a lot of familiarity with the routine parts of the medicine. Of course, I have stripped out a lot of the technical details which our profession would know such as LI-4, LU-9, etc. and used anatomical locations rather than point names when describing treatment room situations, with the idea of catering this series of stories to a more main stream audience. I intend to write a number of volumes on this characters progression, as I have 85 stories to write regarding this kind of material, which means that at 13 stories per book, it is likely that this series will span 10+ books. Hence, this is Yin Water. The next book will be Yin Wood, and so on.
