  • Stops bleeding:  for external bleeding associated with traumatic injury, and various forms of internal bleeding such as uterine bleeding, vomiting blood, nosebleed, coughing of blood, blood in the urine, blood in the stool, or subcutaneous bleeding.  This herb has an astringent nature and is quite effective in stopping bleeding.*
  • Invigorates the blood and dispels stasis:  for chest pain, postpartum abdominal pain, and menstrual pain due to blood stasis.*
  • Promotes urination and stops bleeding:  for hot painful urinary dribbling*

  • Combine with Long Gu and Ai Ye for prolonged menses or irregular uterine bleeding, especially if it is profuse.*
  • Combine with Lu Rong and Dang Gui for unremitting uterine blddeing due to injury and exhuastion of the Liver and Kidneys along with the Penetrating and Conception vessels.*
  • Combine with pao jiang for abdominal pain and distention associated with retained lochia.  This combination is also used for chronic bloody stools due to cold from deficiency of the Spleen and Kidneys.*
  • Combine with hai piao xiao as a topically applied powder for external bleeding due to traumatic injury.*
  • Combine with honey as a topically applied powder for pain and swellling associated with sores.*
  • Combine with Wu Ling Zhi for chest and abdominal pain due to blood stasis, especially when associated with menstrual irregularity and retained lochia, as in shi xiao san.*
  • Combine with Yi Mu Cao and Dang Gui for bleeding postpartum.
  • Combine with Xiao Ji and Bai Mao Gen for bloody urine associated with painful urinary dribbling due to damp-heat in the Bladder.*
