Within this formula, Ren Shen, Bai Zhu, and mix-fried Gan Cao fortify the spleen and supplement the qi, while Gan Jiang warms yang.* This formula comes from Zhang Zhong-jings late Han dynasty Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Damage [Due to] Cold).

Warms the Spleen and Stomach and eliminates interior Cold.

With Gan Cao, for vomiting and epigastric pain due to Spleen and Stomach Deficiency Cold. With Bai Zhu, for diarrhea due to Spleen Deficiency.

Rx. Ginseng Ren Shen 3-15g

Reinforces Yang, strongly tonifies Yuan Qi and harmonizes the Middle Jiao.

With Bai Zhu, tonifies the transformation and transportation functions of the Spleen.

Rz. Atractylodis Macrocephalae Bai Zhu 3-9g

Strengthens the Spleen and dries Dampness.

With Ren Shen, tonifies the Spleen and Stomach. With Ren Shen and Gan Jiang, for Middle Jiao Deficiency Cold with abdominal pain, distention, vomiting and diarrhea.

Rx. Glycyrrhizae Preparata Zhi Gan Cao 3-9g

Augments the Qi of the Middle Jiao and harmonizes.
