Description

The smooth, sweet, woody, herbaceous and pungent, aroma of Jiang Xiang essential oil opens the breathing passages, tingles in the eyes and forehead and gives one the feeling of being refreshed and soothed at the same time. The fragrant wood of Dalbergiae odiferae, native only to HaiNan Island, China's southernmost and only tropical island, is highly prized and in limited supply. It is known in Chinese carpentry as "yellow flower pear" (Huang Hua Li) and was once a favored wood for most of the finest Ming-period furniture.

Its Chinese name, meaning “descending fragrance,” describes its action to relax and lead the Qi and blood downward when there is excess above, as in the case of coughing, vomiting, high blood pressure, etc. This also applies to mental, emotional or neurological disorders such as anxiety, OCD, ADD, mania. For example, in the case of a panic attack, practitioners may consider rubbing Jiang Xiang essential oil onto the chest. Diffused as aroma therapy it is deeply calming and grounding.*


Well known for its application benefiting all types traumatic injuries, it disperses blood stasis and regulates bleeding as well as helping to heal wounds by generating flesh. Jiang Xiang oil is also helpful for pain of internally caused Qi and blood stasis. As an application for injuries, fractures, sprains, strains, contusions, pain, swelling, bruising and non-healing wounds or sores blend with Ru Xiang (Frankincense) and Mo Yao (Myrrh) essential oils.*

According to Western science, Dalbergia Inhibits platelet aggregation (thins the blood), and aids the breakdown of cholesterol, embolism and clots.*

Jang Xiang frees the Heart and Liver Qi and Blood and breaks up stagnation in the chest. For chest and  hypochondriac pain combine with Xiang Fu (Cyperi) essential oil.*

It is also may be applied to help harmonize the Middle Jiao. For abdominal and epigastric pain blend with Mu Xiang (Saussurea). If there is nausea and vomiting due to Stomach Qi stasis add Zi Su Ye (Perilla leaf) and Fou Shou (Citri sarcodacylis) essential oils.*

Pharmacological effects from various studies and research find that Dalbergia is anti-inflammatory, hemostatic, analgesic.*
