Description

54 Chinese herbs on classy cream paper seek colorist. Herb Apothecary has a wide appeal from students/practitioners of Chinese herbology to coloring book fans to people who just plain like plants. Put one in your waiting with colored pencils as a community art project !

Originally created using a brush with black and white ink the drawings were created for Herb Apothecary: The Game (to be published later in 2016 or 2017).  Though stylized they are more accurate than not. Each herb is shown in both plant and dried form. Some pages have more spaces to color and some have much less. These latter are for the colorist to explore their own esthetic in terms of design. Possibilities include a playground for stamping; color gradations; patterns.  They could serve as a place for students to write extra notes. There is also the space on the page facing the coloring page for notes. The following mediums work well on this paper: felt tip pens, colored pencils, water color 1 or 2 layers (don’t let the paint puddle),

You are welcome to try other mediums. There are some blank pages in the back for experimentation.

Opposite each herb is a materia medica type description. This is taken from the miniature Materia Medica written for Herb Apothecary: The Game. Information for each herb is listed as follows:

In place of the usual scholarly description of the herb and it’s uses, is one which uses everyday language as an introduction to the characteristics of that herb.
