Excerpted for Bensky:  Chinese Herbal Medicine Materia Medica, 3rd ed.

  • Warms the middle, disperses cold from the Stomach and Intestines, and alleviates pain:  for cold congealing and leading to qi stagnation in the epigastrium and abdomen with such symtoms as nausea, vomiting, belching, acid regurgitation, loss of apetite, and abdominal pain.*
  • Applied as a powder for toothache, often with Piperis Fructus (hu jiao).*
