Description | To be used as a supplement to a balanced diet when treating all varieties of herpes: oral, facial, eye tissue or genital.* The Western scientific perspective identifies two temperate virus types as the cause of herpes. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) - 1 usually causes recurrent lesions in the mucous membranes of the mouth or lips. As this temperate virus lives in the nervous tissue of the trigeminal nerve (Cranial Nerve V), recurrences can occur along any of the three branches of this nerve: oral cavity, facial skin and eyes. The worst case would be lesions involving the eyes. HSV-2 is the normal cause of genital herpes, causing lesions most often on the female's vaginal lips and male's penile skin. Genital herpes can also be found on any skin region of the perineum. The method of transmission in either case is direct contact. HSV-1 is so common in the American population as to be described as ubiquitous. It probably infects over 95% of the population.* Temperate viruses inhabit the genome of the infected cell and do not destroy the host cell in the manner of a virulent virus. Cold and flu viruses are virulent and destroy their host cell and are, therefore, self-limiting. Temperate viruses may live forever in the host cells and emerge with clinical signs and symptoms during times of stress or low immunity. The type of immune response that fights temperate viruses are T cytotoxic cells (T killers) that also can lyse cancer tumor cells. A successful formula for any temperate virus would need to stimulate this kind of immunity.* The danger of recurrent HSV-1 or HSV-2 infections is that they might travel more widely with each occurrence. Involvement of the eyes is always the worst case scenario and makes it important to treat herpes aggressively whenever it occurs.* Traditional Chinese Medicine views this disease as brought on by emotional reactions such as anxiety, worry, stress, and anger. It can also be brought on by over working to the point of exhaustion or not getting enough sleep all of which causes Lung deficiency, Spleen deficiency and Kidney Yin deficiency all of which then leads to internal heat. Also there can be an attack of Wind Heat and Damp Heat during the deficiency of the Vital Principle. This can lead to stagnation in skin and underlying tissues which blocks the Channels locally leading to stasis of Qi and Blood locally.* TCM Indications: Herpes ulcerative sores due to Wind Warm, Damp Heat and Liver deficiency and Kidney deficiency, may have fever, headache, achy joint, ulcerative sores may appear in mouth, facial skin, or genital skin, may have thirst, constipation, dark yellow urine, dizziness, backache, bitter taste in mouth, dry throat.* Tongue: Red tongue. Pulse: Small, rapid pulse. This formula successfully addresses the factors described above. It quickly clears heat and toxins, thereby reducing the frequency of recurrences. TCM function includes clearing Damp Heat, cooling Blood, nourishing Yin, tonifying Liver and Kidney, and detoxification.* |
