Description | Restorative Tablets is a derivative of the well known Ming Dynasty formula made into a popular patent called Heche Dazao Wan (Placenta Restorative Pills). That original formula was devised for treatment of qi and yin deficiency with mild fever and sweating. Indications may include dizziness, tinnitus, weakness and tiredness of the legs, aching in the lower back or waist, fatigue, low grade fever (especially in the afternoon), red cheeks or hot flushed face, and night sweats. This syndrome, which is essentially the one treated by Astragalus 16 but with liver/kidney deficiency also contributing, arose in patients with chronic diseases, such as tuberculosis, diabetes, hepatitis, hyperthyroidism, and nephritis. Heche Dazao Wan was adopted in recent times to treatment of menopausal syndrome, which is often manifest as yin and blood deficiency, with hot flashes instead of fever and sweating. The combination of rehmannia, ligustrum, cornus, tang-kuei, peony, and cuscuta nourishes the blood and essence. These herbs are frequently mentioned by Chinese physicians for treatment of menopause as well as other conditions associated with aging. According to Chinese reports, such herbs can restore the body\'s ability to produce hormones and respond efficiently to low levels of hormones. In the case of menopausal women, the estrogens are produced to some extent by the ovaries, adrenal glands, and fat cells. See also Iridoid Complex (White Tiger), which has extracts of herbs with iridoid glycosides that appear affective in treating menopausal symptoms. Soy isoflavones (see Genistemma, White Tiger) have also been reported to reduce menopausal symptoms and help prevent osteoporosis (see White Tiger Calmagnium for calcium and other bone nutrients). | |
