English name | Picrorrhiza 11, 250 tablets |
Description | Picrorrhiza 11 was designed for treating a wide range of intestinal infections and inflammatory conditions and for alleviating deficiency heat. It is based on the famous dysentery formula, Anemone Combination (Baitouweng Tang) that includes pulsatilla (Chinese anemone), phellodendron, fraxinus, and coptis. Coptis has been substituted here by picrorrhiza (known as foreign coptis, because it was imported from India), which has anti-infection properties similar to coptis. Picrorrhiza is used in India to treat intestinal parasites and infections and also to treat hepatitis and diabetes. The astringents, pomegranate rind and terminalia, contribute both to halting infection and protecting the intestinal wall from damage and bleeding; they also astringe sweating. Stellaria and ilex leaf are used as tonics, suitable for addressing yin deficiency heat without exacerbating dampness. Chronic intestinal infections are classified as damp-heat syndromes, and the herbs in this formula clear damp-heat gently but effectively. When clearing the dampness, an underlying yin deficiency may show its symptoms; for this reason, stellaria and ilex leaf are appropriate ingredients to minimize this response. The formula can be used for an extended period to treat chronic intestinal disorders, including those ascribed to candida, and it can be used to treat the yin deficiency hot flashes or menopause. See Propol-Gold (White Tiger) and Myrolea-B (White Tiger) for additional anti-infection herbs that might be used with this formula, and Altarulm (White Tiger) for alleviating the burning sensation of gastro-intestinal inflammation. | |
