Description | Peony and Licorice Combination addresses Liver Yin and Blood vacuity patterns where spasms and cramping are the main manifestations. The Liver is in charge of storing and distributing the Blood to the sinews, but when the Blood is vacuous, the sinews are not nourished, causing pain, cramping and spasms. In the Shang Han Lun, this formula was classically used to treat a pattern of Liver Yin and Blood vacuity caused by inappropriate sweating; today it is used for a wide variety of pain syndromes including any type of pain in the calves. This formula is also indicated for a Liver/Spleen disharmony where there is diarrhea with spasms and cramping in the Intestines. Peony and Licorice Formula is unique in that it consists of only two herbs, bai shao and gan cao. their sweet and sour natures quickly generate fluids, nourish the blood and sinews and regulate the relationship between the Liver and Spleen. | |
Ingredients | bai shao (white peony root) gan cao (Chinese licorice root) |
