Description | This is a mixture of herbs classified in the Chinese system as kidney tonics, mainly for the treatment of yang deficiency syndromes, but selected also for potential benefits for the immune system. Nigella sativa (called clack seed) is a famous remedy of Unani medicine, widely used in the Middle East to India. The closely related Nigella glandulifera grows in China and known there also as black seed (heizhong). In Unani medicine, it is considered a cure-all, but it is especially used to overcome weak digestion, thought to be the source of many diseases. In China, the seed is used for kidney deficiency affecting the brain, with symptoms such as tinnitus and poor memory. Modern research suggests that it has immune regulating functions useful for immune deficiency, autoimmunity, and allergy. Ligustrum is used in China for nourishing the kidney yin, traditionally included in small formulas for treating dizziness, vertigo, tinnitus, poor memory, and low back pain; it has become recognized world wide for regulating immune functions. Morinda is a yang tonic of Chinese medicine mainly for impotence and low libido, it has recently been adopted, along with the fruit of a related species, Morinda citrifolia, to make products called "noni" referring to the herb used in Tahiti. It is touted as a treatment for a huge variety of disorders, no doubt excessively, but the root contains numerous active constituents (more so than the fruit) that may contribute to several beneficial effects. Snow lotus is a Tibetan herb classified in Chinese medicine as a yang tonic and is used for impotence, as well as for rheumatic arthritis and autoimmunity disorder. Together, these herbs yield a gently warming yang tonic, balanced by the yin nourishing ligustrum, with emphasis on treatment of impotence, low libido. disturbed brain functions, and immune disorders; these herbs are also reputed to regulate menstruation.* |
