The uses for Licorice are vast and varied. It is known as an adrenal gland tonic for those with fatigue or ongoing stress. It helps the stressed adrenal gland to maintain its' production of adrenaline, cortisone and aldosterone when over burdened.

Licorice increases the hormone aldosterone, which makes one hold more water. It will hydrate a dry body, decrease the frequent need to urinate but increase the volume of urine. It is specific for those who wake to urinate (eliminating other urinary infections, prostate problems, etc.) It will help hydrate and soften dry stools, act as an expectorant by thinning thick mucus in the lungs and hydrate and soften dry stools, act as an expectorant by thinning thick mucus in the lungs and hydrate skin in general. It will soothe sore throats and is famous for healing stomach and duodenal ulcers.

Licorice will also increase blood levels of ones cortisol.  This cortisone will decrease inflammation for all inflammatory conditions.  it may help decrease the need for cortico-steroid medication and can help inflammatory conditions as varied as asthma, psoriasis, hepatitis, lupus, MS, arthritis, eczema and other auto immune disorders.  It is an anti-inflammatory herb.
