Description | Gui Pi Wan is a classic formula for heart blood deficiency due to Spleen Qi deficiency. It has a wide variety of applications, and is most often indicated for insomnia due to blood deficiency and deficiency bleeding disorders. Differentiation from insomnia due to Yin deficiency is made by observing a pale tongue and looking for other blood deficiency symptoms such as scanty periods, dry hair and skin, or cracked fingernails. What distinguishes this formula from Ba Zhen Wan is the inclusion of three herbs that direct the formula to the heart: Polygala Yuan Zhi, Euphoria Longan Long Yan Rou and Zizyphus Suan Zao Ren.
