Description | Digestive enzyme mixtures have become a commonly used means of addressing deteriorated digestive power that is associated with reduced secretion of digestive substances from the stomach, pancreas, and gallbladder. Such problems may occur with aging, from chronic diseases, or as a result of long term poor dietary habits. This formula combines proteases (pepsin, bromelain, and papain, pancreatin) to break down proteins, with cellulase (to aid digestion of vegetable matter, breaking down cellulose),amylase (in pancreatin, to break down starch), lactase (for lactic acid, which causes digestive problems for some individuals), and substances to aid lipid digestion (ox bile and lipase in pancreatin). Betaine HCI provides a small amount of hydrochloric acid to assist the stomach's digestion, but not enough to worsen cases of high acid levels. Gallus, the chicken gizzard lining, stimulates the stomach lining to produce more of its digestive fluids. The amount of each ingredient is sufficient that one tablet will complete digestion of a meal for most people, but two tablets can be taken for more serious digestive weakness or when a large meal is eaten. It is best used at the beginning of a meal. Galletaine can be taken 30-45 minutes before a meal to stimulate the appetite and promote digestion. It will still have a benefit if taken after a meal within about an hour. These same enzymes, and chicken gizzard lining, have also been utilized in treatment of other disorders, such as relieving inflammation and reducing masses, taken on an empty stomach, but the effectiveness for such conditions is not clearly established. |
