English name | Eucommia, Eucommiae Cortex, Eucommia ulmoides bark |
Description | Traditional Growing Location: Hubei Province, China (wild-crafted) Traditional Preparation: Unprocessed, naturally dried Excipient: Organic, soluble quinoa extract Medicinal QualityDuzhong (Eucommia bark) has traditionally been classified as a medicinal substance that tonifies the essence of the Liver and Kidney organ networks, with a specific affinity for healing degenerative disorders of the spine and the lower back. It is one of the best-known examples to illustrate the traditional doctrine of signatures in medicinal plants, since the elastic fibers in the tree’s bark resemble the ligaments in a human back. Traditional Terroir ConsiderationsThe best region for harvesting medicinal grade Duzhong is the damp environment of Sichuan Province, where many of China’s most effective anti-arthritis herbs tend to thrive. Classical Pearls is proud to offer wild-crafted Duzhong from its traditional habitat, the pristine mountain ranges of Western Hubei. This region was administered by the governor of Sichuan until the late Qing dynasty, and has long been the source for many medicinal plants in the famous category of “Sichuanese herbs.” Until the late 1980s, no roads connected the villages in these remote mountains to the rest of China, and local herb collectors had to transport their seasonal bounty to urban markets by horse caravan.
