English name Celosia 10
Description Celosia 10 was designed on the basis of formulas described in Chinese research reports for the treatment of retinal disorders, such as cataracts or infections of the cornea, as the retina is internally located and a part of the brain, while the lens and cornea are exposed tissue easily subject to "wind" disorders (see: Chien-li Tablets or Chrysanthemum 9). Most of the retinal disorders involve low-grade inflammatory processes that lead to disruption of the blood circulation. The herb therapies designed for retinal disorders generally include tonics for the eyes (liver nourishing agents that are thought to be specific for eye problems, such as celosia, lycium, and chrysanthemum), blood vitalizing agents to rectify the the retinal circulation (salvia and red peony); herbs to prevent disruption of the capillaries with potential for bleeding into the eye (eclipta, sophora flower, and san-chi); and herbs for clearing heat (raw rehmannia). In the West, people consume flavonoids, such as those from bilberry, to benefit the eyes by providing visual pigments (see: Lycuvin, White Tiger): eclipta and sophora flower contain flavonoids that mainly affect the circulation. San-chi both prevents bleeding and vitalizes blood. For retinal degenerative conditions, such as macular degeneration, the addition of kidney tonic herbs is recommended (the retina is an extension of the brain, nourished by the kidney): try Eleuthero 10+ and/or Restorative Tablets. Also see the eye formula Ming Mu Di Huang Wan (Pine Mountain), based on nourishing the kidney and liver, and Iridoid Complex (White Tiger), based on one of the main active constituents in many of the yin nourishing and eye-benefiting formulas.
