Description | Botanical source: Citrus x bergamia, bergamot orange Note: Bergamot oil is one of the few true hybrid oils of the materia aromatica. At some point in the past, possibly during the 10th century in Sicily, this citrus varietal was hybridized from the bitter orange and the sweet lime. Fragrance profile: Our organic Bergamot oil beautifully delivers the same complex notes as its two parent plants. On one hand the smooth, fullbodied sweet citrus notes of the bitter orange peel; on the other hand, the fizzy, tangy acidic notes of sweet lime peel. The seamless interplay of these two notes is what creates the true Bergamot signature fragrance. Fragrance energy: Lemony-sweet Properties: Balancing, uplifting and gently warming Chinese medicine function: To regulate the Qi, settle the Heart and harmonize the spirit Pharmacology: High in esters (<57%), Bergamot oil isdominated by linalyl acetate, which has shown to be protective of nerve cells and generally balancing to the nervous system. The oil's chemistry itself is well balanced by relaxant monoterpenols and stimulant monoterpenes. These three compounds contribute to making Bergamot one of the few true regulating and balancing oils at our disposal. It is bivalently able to relax in tense conditions, and stimulate in weak conditions. Complementary blending: Lavender, Grapefruit, Lemon, Coriander leaf, Neroli, Grand fir, May chang, Lemongrass, Juniper, Jasmine absolute, Roman camomile, Coriander seed, Helichryum Caution: Bergamot increases skin photosensitivity: avoid any exposure to sunlight, including sunbed tanning, for at least 20 hours after applying Bergamot oil on the skin.
